Fitting Exercise into Your Weekly Routine

Fitting Exercise into Your Weekly Routine

Make it important: If you don’t make exercise important to you, then you won’t do it. Make it a part of your daily routine (well it doesn’t have to be every day, but you understand what I mean). Just like it takes time and energy to schedule appointments or meet up with friends, it takes time and planning to fit in a workout too. You successfully made dinner plans with friends- wasn’t too hard now was it? Planning when to do a workout is just as easy!

Just do it: No this isn’t a Nike campaign, but they are definitely onto something. We all have those days when we don’t want to go to the gym, or go on a run, or whatever your workout pleasure may be- but that is when you just have to do it. You always feel better afterwards and thank yourself for doing it. And honestly, some of my best workouts have come from days I didn’t want to do it. It really makes you appreciate your ability to workout and train that little bit harder.

Rise and shine: For me, I have to wake up early and get my workout in. Being an entrepreneur means my day can be very unpredictable. To take away the unpredictability, I get up before everyone else and workout. Sure, this may not be for you, but we’re all adaptable and if there is literally only time for you in the morning, then give yourself 21 days to give exercising early a try. I bet you will turn into a morning workout person!

Keep it short AND effective: If I am short on time, then my go-to workout style is HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training). It gets your heart pumping right away and keeps the heart rate elevated, even after you are done. My favorite interval workout is training for 20 seconds and resting for 10 seconds. I usually tie two 10 minute intervals together to blast out a quick and effective 20 minute workout. Try alternating jump squats with push-ups or burpees with wall sits, or jump lunges with dips or sit-ups with planks etc. The key is to go all out for that 20 seconds. This is what will get your heart pumping.
