All our product development was guided by our scientific advisory group including a number of well known researchers in biofeedback and pelvic floor exercise, such as Dr. Rufus Cartwright, Imperial College; Dr. Kay Crotty, Physiolink; Prof. Linda McLean, University of Ottawa; and Dr. Jeroen Bergmann, Oxford University. Multiple studies show that giving women real-time biofeedback is one of the most effective methods of doing Kegel exercises, with direct force measurement being the gold standard. Elvie Trainer measures force directly, offering a significant advance over existing products that rely on air pressure changes.

As with all exercise we encourage women to set realistic goals so we suggest that you use Elvie Trainer three times a week as a minimum. However physiotherapists recommend that you do pelvic floor exercises at least once a day, so if you want to use Elvie Trainer even more, then that's fantastic! The most important thing is to fit Elvie Trainer workouts into your daily routine.

Elvie Trainer uses a patented system of force and motion sensors to measure pelvic floor contractions. Until recently, this technology was only available in hospitals, but Elvie Trainer enables to benefit from biofeedback technology in the comfort of your own home - or anywhere. Elvie Trainer connects to an app which provides real-time visual feedback. This allows you to see whether you are exercising correctly, as well as how strongly you are squeezing. Elvie Trainer also detects if you are exercising incorrectly, which is important as pushing down rather than pulling up can be damaging to the pelvic floor. The results from your workouts are saved, allowing you to measure your improvement, track your progress and stay motivated to beat your personal best.

Elvie Trainer is H8cm x W3.5cm x D3.3cm and weighs 25g. Elvie Trainer also comes with an optional cover for custom sizing. We recommend that all women try Elvie Trainer with and without the optional cover to see which is most comfortable.

Elvie Trainer contains force and motion sensors. The force sensors measure the strength of your squeeze, while the motion sensors measure tilt. If Elvie Trainer tilts in the wrong direction, indicating you are pushing down rather than pulling up, the app will show you a warning message. This is important as pushing down can cause damage over the long term, so it is vital Elvie Trainer teaches women to exercise correctly.

Bluetooth emits from the tail of Elvie Trainer which always remains outside the body. Bluetooth devices are extremely low powered - approximately 100 times less than the maximum power of a mobile phone. It is due to this fact that lots of wireless healthcare and medical devices use Bluetooth. Elvie Trainer uses Bluetooth Low Energy, which offers an even lower emission than standard Bluetooth.

Using the app

Your LV score simply shows you how strongly you are squeezing - you may well find that it is higher during some workouts than others, depending on the time of the month (or even the time of day!). The very first exercise in each workout sets your targets, depending on your strength of that particular day, and this determines the height of the line you will try to reach during the Lift exercises. How close you are to reaching this line is a good indication of progress and improvement. If you are using Elvie Trainer several times a week, you will start to get a feel for what a 'normal' LV score is for you. However, it is important to remember that the LV score is just one aspect of the workout. The Pulse and Speed exercises that challenge your fast twitch muscles are just as vital!
